A vacancy has arisen in the busy library service team for a Library Assistant. The 18-hour post will operate mostly out of Formby Library but will include other Branches in Sefton. You will be part of the team that provides a first-class library service to the people of Sefton.

This is a frontline position dealing with the public, so experience of working in a customer-focussed environment will be an advantage. The successful candidate will help to deliver a range of activities in support of the library offer. We are looking for a highly motivated team player; someone who is flexible in approach, an excellent communicator with a positive outlook. The ability to work alone once trained is essential.

Library Assistants may be timetabled, if required, at any branch in Sefton. Rotas include alternate Saturday working. The timetable will be prepared in advance, but late changes can occur, so flexibility and willingness to travel between branches is essential.

A good standard of literacy and numeracy is essential, as is the ability to deal with a range of administrative and financial tasks. The People’s Network public-access computers operate throughout Sefton’s libraries and staff are required to handle basic enquiries on this as on other aspects of the service.

The role does involve the physical movement and handling of stock and shelving with extended periods of time spent on foot or standing up.

Desirable attributes include a computer qualification (e.g. CLAIT, ECDL), experience of participating in promotional and community activities, and the ability to participate and deliver literacy activities such as story/rhyme time sessions for children.

Applicants for posts at Grade D must be able to undertake facility-related security routines.

Interview date: 25/07/2025 to be held at Formby Library
